The first Castro Valley week and the rain finally began to fall. Actually, to be honest, it has been raining the last three weeks, but this week it really did not give us a break. Weather.com says that we only received 2 inches, but our rain gauges on site lean more towards 3.5. Rainbows were the theme of the week and I saw one of the most magnificent rainbows over the ocean on Wednesday morning. The wind was out of the south all week and the swell was 6 to 10 feet from the west north west.
I did not have a sheet of paper posted for the students to list the species that they saw this week but Bobcat and the other naturalists have left a list with me. The most spectacular on the list is two octopus on thursday. The tides were perfect for day time tidepooling with a huge swell. The Canyon Lists will be posted the next two weeks. See you then — Burl
