It is a beautiful first day of Fall here at Sempervirens Outdoor School. We have Beamer Elementary here this week, our second school of the year. Everything is off to a great start with two weeks of incredible beach days. Last week the students found an octopus in the tidepools along with the sea stars, hermit crabs and sea anemones. We have also seen a lot of dolphins so far this year and yesterday a sea otter was spotted bobbing up and down on the waves. Although the monarch butterflies have not yet arrived at Natural Bridges a great horned owl was spotted snoozing up in a eucalyptus tree, and yesterday some cool jellyfish were found washed up on the beach.

Days at the SVOS garden have been filled making edible art with the lemon cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce and other delicious greens growing in the garden. The fruit trees are filled with apples and pears and this year, for an ENH first, students are able to sign up to help milk our goat, Gracie.

Last night after a rocking boogie we heard a western screech owl calling into the night while the naturalist Poppy told a story to send us off to bed. Tonight: skit night on the Autumnal Equinox!
